Ekiti 2018: Organise free, fair primary, Adeyeye charges PDP

Governorship asipirant on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s platform in Ekiti, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, has charged the party to organise a free and fair primary election so as to produce credible candidate for the state’s 2018 election.

Adeyeye, who stated this when he submitted his nomination form for the PDP primary coming up on May 8, added that “for the national organising secretary and the national working committee to have come out with a time table, we are very happy and we believe their intentions are pure and they will ensure free and fair primaries.”

It could be recalled that the Governor Ayo Fayose had sometime in September last year, picked a successor whom Adeyeye described as unconstitutional. According to him, “this party has a constitution and we believe that we should follow the constitution of the party, there are processes by which candidate emerged in any political party and that was never complied with but I am happy that it has been disregarded and we are going to the primaries.”

He also lamented that, “It is not the right time to contest for governorship in any state where the entire structure of the party has been deployed against you. People are been intimidated and harassed on daily basis because they are supporting you. All we ask for is a free and fair election and total security for everybody coming to participate in the election and the whole world should see.” Adeyeye revealed that, “all the aspirants are collaborating and we are working together and I believe that at the end of the day one will win. Actually we are contesting against the governor.”

He expresses the hope that if the primary is free and fair, the party stands a better chance to win the Ekiti 2018 gubernatorial elections and the 2019 general election. Earlier in his remarks, the National Organising Secretary, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd) assured all aspirants that the new, rebranded and repositioned PDP will give room to every aspirant to contest for any position they wish to aspire to. He explained that the party is on the right part and it is attracted to everybody, and urged supporters to follow the party guideline and play by the rule and be rest assured that the primary will be free and fair.
