Ekiti: ADP wants Fayemi’s victory nullified, wants INEC overhauled

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has faulted the conduct of the just concluded Ekiti governorship election and subsequently demanded nullification of the election.
The party, one of the 33 political parties that fielded candidates also demanded a complete overhaul in the leadership of Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The said election saw the candidate of the APC, Kayode Fayemi declared winner.
The ADP national chairman, Sani Yabaji, who insisted on nullification of the exercise in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, said the victory attributed to the APC “is questionable”.
He also said there is need to rejig the Independent National Electoral Commission to avoid the kind of malpractices that happened in Ekiti in future elections, adding that the actors be brought to book.
“Finally, INEC has demonstrated that our democratic aspirations cannot be entrusted into its hands.
What is now required, is a complete overhaul of INEC to rid it of its current partisan disposition.
“The elections should be nullified on the grounds of overwhelming malpractices and the actors be brought to book and now that the war on corruption has failed, Nigeria must vote out this administration in 2019 and pave way for the emergence of a credible alternative.
“Ballot box snatching, meddlesomeness by security agents who acted on the side of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), violence, brutalization of polling agents, mal-function of Card-readers, vote buying amongst others.
“It is irrefutable that, the ruling APC and its collaborators compromised the entire processes in order to procure a questionable victory at all costs, to the extent that huge sum of money was offered to some candidates to defect from their parties at the last minute, all in the bid to sabotage such parties in favour of Dr.
John Kayode Fayemi, the APC candidate to win the election.”
