Ekiti APC drives for 100,000 members

Indication emerged yesterday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is targeting no fewer than 100,000 members in Ekiti state in its ongoing membership registration drive.
The state interim chairman, Chief Jide Awe, gave the indication yesterday in his Erinjiyan Ekiti country home while observing the registration exercise of the party.
The membership registration drive has been described by many political watchers in Nigeria as an effort to further consolidate the merger of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN), All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) initiated in 2013.
Awe, who lauded the large turnout of members across the 16 local government areas of the state, said the party had deployed all materials that would ensure smooth take off of the exercise in all the designated registration centres.
He said: “The programme started in all the 16 local government areas without any hitch. At least, we are expecting an average of 500 members from each of the 177 wards.
“But based on information at our disposal, some wards have recorded more than 500 members. So, we are not expecting less than 100,000 members that would register.”
