Ekiti Christians protest Benue, Taraba, North-east killings

Christians of various denominations yesterday took to the streets of Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, and other major towns in the state to protest the “unabated killings of fellow Christians by gunmen in Benue, Taraba and other parts of the North-east.
Carrying placards of various inscriptions, the protesters, under the auspices of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), lampooned the federal government for “not being able to put an end to the unnecessary bloodshed in the Middle Belt.” According to them, the current trend may lead to another civil war “if not curtailed in record time.”
The mass protest which was under heavy security, mounted by a joint patrol of men of the Nigeria police and Civil Defence Corps, was led by the state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Joshua Orikogbe, and other top church leaders, Christian faithful and hordes of the Association’s chairman and top officers in all the16 local government areas of the state.
The Association called on President Muhammadu Buhari to “act swiftly by stopping the menace and bring the culprits to book,” warning that dilly dallying or delaying “may cause total collapse of the country.” They also stormed the Government House where they sent a letter to the president through Governor Ayo Fayose.
