In a bid to take development to the grassroots through participatory governance, Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, yesterday unfolded the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (2014-2016) for the 16 local government areas.
He said the document would serve as policy direction for the execution of all government’s projects and programmes at the grassroots level.
Fayemi, who was represented by his deputy, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, said the projects in the strategic plan were identified and prioritised by the communities through the annual Town hall meetings with him, last year.
She called on neighbouring states and individuals to partner with it to ensure good governance at the grassroots.
Adelabu, while presenting the document at the programme attended by the newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen of the councils, she said “the success of MTEF at the state level encouraged its being cascaded to the third tier of government, as the government closest to the people.”
“The need for MTEF at the local government cannot be over- emphasised. It is expected to insitutionalise community- driven projects selection and budgeting process.”
At the event, Ilejemeje, Ekiti West and Ido-Osi council areas rated as first, second and third, respectively, in internally generated revenue in 2013 were rewarded in cash and kind.
She commended the three councils rewarded as best IGR generated councils and urged others to step up their performance in order to boost their income.
The Commissioner for Local Governments, Mr. Paul Omotoso, said MTEL document was aimed at ensuring participatory government at the grass roots.
He commended Fayemi for his style of leadership, saying that the eight-point agenda of the government had had impacted positively in the third tier of government.
