Just as the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in Ekiti state was contemplating strike to protest the kidnap of one of their own, Dr Adekunle Abayomi, by unidentified gunmen, he was released by his abductors.
Abayomi regained his freedom alongside a Lagos-based businessman, Chief Femi Fadeyi, who was also abducted somewhere in Ido-Ekiti, last week.
A government source, who spoke under anonymity, dropped the hint in a telephone conversation with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, said the two persons were found in an isolated place at Ijero-Ekiti, in Ijero local government area of the state yesterday.
However, the source did not disclose whether any ransom was paid to their abductors or not, but multiple sources within the state chapter of the NMA confirmed that a ransom of N800,000 was paid to the doctor’s captors by his colleagues, out of the N1million initially demanded.
Also, the manner of their release gave an indication that both might have been kidnapped by the same gang.
Those kidnapped were a prominent Lagos-based business man who is an indigene of the state, Chief Femi Fadeyi and a male Medical Doctor, Adekunle Abayomi of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).
While Fadeyi was kidnapped on Monday, at a Gas Station in Ido-Ekiti, Dr. Abayomi on the other hand was kidnapped on his way from Ado-Ekiti to another town.
The source would, however, not disclose how much was paid by families of the other victim to secure his release.
