Ekiti police parade armed robbers, serial rapist

Efforts of the Ekiti state Police Command to rid the state of criminals and reign in their activities in the state appears to be yielding fruits, as several men of the underworld who have been holding the state by its jugular were paraded over the weekend.

Speaking during the event which was held at the Command Headquaters in Ado-Ekiti, the Police Commissioner, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, said some men of the underworld had invaded an industry named Card Mega System Limited in Ilawe Ekiti on August 22, 2014, where recharge cards worth N4.1 million, were stolen.
He disclosed that a cache of recharge cards worth N2.2 million was recovered from a gang of armed robbers, who invaded the telecommunication company.
He said upon receiving a distress call that operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad had pursued the robbers, engaged them in serious gun duel and recovered part of the stolen goods.
Lakanu said items like Toshiba Laptop Computer and a variety of GSM Phones valued at N178, 000, were also stolen during the midnight operation.

“The operatives also approached the telecommunication Company to block the remainders that are yet to be recovered to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from using them”, the CP said.  The Command also paraded one Akinsola Faleye, an alleged unrepentant criminal, who was recently released from prisons having been sentenced to jail for robbing one Victor Yusuf at gunpoint, at his hideout in Ajilosun and would be charged to Court soon.
The Police Commissioner added that the Command also botched a robbery operation with the aid of a vigilance group at Olorunsogo in Ado Ekiti on September 4 during which one Femi Abegunde was arrested after robbing some victims of a sum ofN662,000, gold lace , phones and Automated Teller Machine.

Aside the suspected robbers that were paraded, Lakanu said the Command also arrested and detained Abraham Kayode, 35 for allegedly defiling an eight-year old primary three pupil on September 28, 2014 under the guise of sending her on errand and that investigation revealed that the suspect has been an alleged serial pedophile.
In similar way, the Command also arrested one Shuaibu Ojo at Emure Ekiti on October 12, for allegedly breaking into a residential building and raped a 17-year old girl.
