El-Rufai to build 3,000-capacity NYSC camp hoste

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna has pledged to build additional blocks of hostels to accommodate 3,000 more corps members as 2,237 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members posted to Kaduna state took oath of service yesterday.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony at the NYSC orientation camp along Kaduna-Abuja highway, el-Rufai who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, who doubled as chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state, Daniel Dan-Auta, restated the commitment of his administration to strive to make NYSC function to capacity as a result of values it is adding to the economy of the state.
The governor, who made the commitment during an interview with newsmen shortly after declaring the orientation course open, said the additional facilities would be captured in the third phase of the camp’s renovation. He said: “If you look around, you can see that we have just finished the first phase of the general renovation of the camp. It is in phases. We are already in the second phase, which includes the parade ground, female hostel and staff quarters. We only have hitches with the contractor and that has been sorted out. “Due to our seriousness in upgrading the facilities here, NYSC headquarters has offered to double the number of corps members to be deployed to Kaduna state from 2,500 to 5,000.
We have provided a transit camp for the members of the scheme. “We are expanding permanent site in the third phase to accommodate up to 3,000 corps members, so we can have more of the essential workers you talked about.” Coordinator of the state NYSC, Alhaji Dahunsi Mohammed, had earlier made a personate appeal to the state government to erect and furnish additional blocks of hostel and staff quarters at the permanent orientation camp.
