The All Progressives Congress (APC) national disabled leader, Alhaji Misbahu Didi, has appealed to Nigerians, especially political party supporters to avoid violence before, during and after the election days.
He made the appeal Tuesday in Abuja at an event organised by the physically challenged to drum support for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We are here as like minds to show our solidarity to President Buhari and the APC that has done us well and has our interest in mind,”he said.
He said the appeal for a violence free election had become necessary because in an event of violence, it is the physically challenged that was mostly affected.
This, he explained was because they do not have legs and in some cases do not have eyes to run.
He charged physically challenged persons in the country to come out enmass to vote for President Buhari on Saturday to ensure his re-election.
According to him, the re-election of Buhari will guarantee the well-being of physically challenged persons, especially with the proposed Commission for Disabilities.
Didi added that Buhari’s re-election would mark the implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act which he said would be in their interest.
Also speaking, Dr Samuel Ankeli,Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Disability Matters, said Buhari remains the best choice for Nigerians at the moment.
He added that the sharp turn for persons with disabilities in the country began with President Buhari’s administration.
He further added that besides ensuring that Persons with Disabilities Bill was passed in law, the Buhari administration had done well for persons with disabilities and Nigerians generally.
He noted that the administration had recognised persons with disabilities by giving them appointments even as special assistants.
Didi stressed that the re-election of President Buhari would ensure the establishment of the Commission for Disability and the implementation of Persons with Disability Act.
He charged political stakeholders and their supporters not to see elections as a do or die affairs,saying that elections should be peaceful.
“It is voting, not fighting, we don’t have legs or eyes to run in an event of violence. Please don’t forment trouble,encourage us to come out to exercise our franchise by creating a peaceful environment,”Ankeli said
