Election: NYSC boss displeased with welfare of Corps members

Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Major General Suleiman Kazaure, has expressed his disappointment over the poor treatment of Corp members participating in the election.

This is even as he has also intervened in the Corps members plight by ordering the release of mattresses to all corps members participating in the election across the country.

The scheme supplied majority of adhoc staff serving in the ongoing general elections

Prior to the postponement of the 9th February elections, pictures of corps members on election duties sleeping on bore floor and on grasses for lack of proper accommodation went viral on social media.

The DG therefore ordered all state coordinators to provide mattresses for all corps members to assuage their plight.

Speaking on the situation, the state coordinator, FCT NYSC, Mr Birniwa Ballama said it was discovered to the regrets of the DG, Maj Gen. SZ Kazaure and the entire management and staff of NYSC and the FCT Secretariat that Corp members were not only abandoned, but were left to sleep in the cool and on bare floor.  The supply of mattresses as an intervention initiative became imperative in furtherance of the DG unbridled parlance on welfare concerns to Corp members,” he said.

He said the scheme has provided over 12,000 mattresses to corps members participating in the elections in the FCT.

Surprising the movement of the mattresses, Ballama said the scheme is concern about the comfort and the well being of the corps members and would go any length to ensure that they are cared for.
