Elections: Army arrests hoodlums in Badagry

Troops of Operation Safe Conduct deployed to provide security and conducive atmosphere for the conduct of Presidential and National Assembly election on Saturday intercepted three hoodlums on motorcycle in Badagry, Lagos state.

The election was postponed midnight Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) citing logistic problems.

A statement by Army spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa, said the hoodlums were arrested at Iwaraja Junction along Badagry axis – between Osun and Ogun states, at about 7:30 am.

He said the hoodlums were moving towards Ilesa East local government area, Osun state, to disrupt smooth conduct of general elections in that area.

“Items recovered from them include: a locally made pistol, a gutless, 3 rounds of cartridges, 3 mobile phones, one iPad, a Peace Corps face cap, a Peace Corps ID card, and the sum of 14,300 naira,” he stated.

Sagir said the arrested hoodlum and the items would be handed over to the police after completion of initial profiling and investigation by the Army.
