Elections: Defence chief visits security situation room

As the general elections draws closer, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin has inspected  the Nigerian Army election security situation room to assess its state of readiness to monitoring security situation during elections.
The Nigerian Army security situation room was launched by the Chief of Army staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday to monitor security situations across the country during and after the elections.
Buratai said the security monitoring room was a strong potential for intelligence and information gathering and sharing for the Nigerian  Army units and formations across the nation, “with the view to strengthen democracy and election security before and during the 2019 general elections.”
Speaking at the centre, the defence chief commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for responsively and proactively establishing “a state of the art” Elections Security Monitoring Situation Centre at the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ Cyber Warfare Command.
He urged the COAS to sustain the tempo.
The CDS also urged the commander of the centre and his staff to continue with the good works and ensure alertness and sense of responsibility, round the clock, on the part of the personnel earmarked to man the centre.

In his remark, the COAS said the Nigerian Army had  deemed it necessary to adopt “a proactive and responsive posture” that would allow the army to better respond to early signs of insecurity before they escalate into a major security challenge.
To ensure violence free elections the Nigerian Army had launched  Operation Safe Conduct and Operation Python Dance across the country.
