Elections: INEC bows, extends PVC collection deadline

After much agitations by Nigerians, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of permanent voters cards (PVC) by three days.

The collection of PVC was officially meant to end this Friday.

However, the commission has announced extension of the PVC collection to Monday, February.

Chairman of INEC, Mahmoud Yakubu, who disclosed this at the opening of a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) in Abuja on Friday said the decision was as a result of complaints received from across the country.

Yakubu said the extension of the deadline is to ensure no eligible Nigerian is disfranchised because of their inability to collect their PVCs.

He said officials will work on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m to 6 p.m. during the exercise.
