Elections postponement: GDPN berates INEC

The Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) has called on Nigerians not to be deterred by the postponement of the general elections but come out en mass on the new date.

The party in a statement by its national chairman Amb Cedrack Odion Okpeblulo Sunday, said postponement of the general elections is a ‘gross’ neglect of responsibility by the electoral body.

“We regret the postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC), which has been caused by the gross inefficiency and neglect of responsibility by the electoral body; and by the vitriolic politics-of- hate practiced by the APC & PDP which at the moment is threatening the electoral process and the lives and safety of Nigerians.

“We call on Nigerians not to be deterred by the conduct of misguided persons at the helms of affairs, represented by the APC, PDP and INEC to discourage our collective resolve to exercise our franchise come February 23, 2019, we must come out to vote en mass for unity and progress of our father land and vote out and against those who think themselves better than the Nigerian people.

The party also called for the disqualification of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the People’s Democratic Party for dishonouring the peace accord.

“While we call our members and Nigerians in general to maintain restraint in the face of this gross attempt to ridicule the   sacredness of our electoral process and   shame our beloved country, Nigeria, we call for the immediate disqualification of both the All Progressives Congress and their partners in mischief, the People’s Democratic Party, who have elevated personal interest above those of well-meaning Nigerians thereby fanning violence and unnecessarily heating up the polity.

“Nigeria is bigger than the APC, PDP & INEC. What was done Nigeria is despicable, graceless and unmeritorious.

It exposes us to the world as lawless state with no adherence to guidelines.

“Also, it is now visible to Nigerians  that  the   present   situation   has   exposed  the   negative  tendencies of the APC & PDP against the peace accord signed only a few days showing their hypocrisy, when they spoke about peace  to high heavens.

“This election is clearly a battle between good and evil; between peace and stability; and the continued terror and poverty that characterize our society today.

“While we hope and work towards a peaceful poll, we encourage you to vote for progressive and peaceful Nigeria.God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
