A Lagos-based economic analyst, Mr Udimezie Akize has observed that following the postponement of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, Nigeria lost $1.5 billion US dollars.
The analyst who spoke to Channels Television monitored in Dutse, Jigawa state capital Saturday, stated that the country also lost N450billion through the capital market as a result of the postponement.
Akize said the country had insured losses in the air, sea, land transport sector apart from the trader markets.
Also, the first civilian governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Ali Sa’ad and others in separate reactions said Nigerians should exercise patience with the shift on the dates for the elections because it is the same people that would still contest the election on Saturday.
The former governor appealed to the electorate to support the decision by INEC to remain calm and peaceful.
“To me, there is no difference between this Saturday and the coming one because God has already chosen who he wants”, Sa’ad said.
Also reacting, a front line member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa, Alhaji Ali Aji, who spoke in Ringim, said the postponement was a good omen for his party.
Aji stated that in 2015 when the party was in power, similar thing happened but that did not change anything, the opposition party won the election.
“This time around, same thing will repeat itself because by the grace of Almighty God, we will sweep the polls.
Alhaji Garba Isa, a trader in Dutse market lamented that the postponement of the election has caused them colossal loss in their business adventures.
