Electoral Act 2022 will affect enemies of democracy – Willie Amadi

A renowned legal luminary in Imo, Chief Barrister Willie Amadi has stated that with the Electoral Act 2022, peoples votes and mandates will now count.

Barrister Amadi reminded political office holders who do not serve their people well when in public office or are not popular in their locality, “to save their money because today’s voters will collect the money and still vote against you.”

The legal practitioner who was giving insights into the content of the new Electoral law passed earlier in the year, emphasised that the new law is a working tool for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) constitutional duty.

Barrister Amadi added that the sections and clauses that make up the new working document of the electoral umpire will affect enemies of democracy as well as under-performing public office holders who have been having their way all these while stating the consequences of going contrary to the law.

He stated that in new Electotal Act, no manual accreditation, no use of incident forms, while all accreditation is electronic using the Bimodal accreditation which means facial finger printing recognition.

He also stated that the Electoral Law underscores that no pre-election cases after the conclusion of general elections as well as no election cases after swearing into office of the winners.

He further reminded Nigerians that “All results must be uploaded to INEC official website at the polling units before taking it to Ward, LGA or State collation centers.

“If the number of votes cast is more than the accredited voters the polling unit result is automatically cancelled.

“No more agreement between parties to share the remaining ballot papers that were not used by voters in the elections.

“No more massive thump printing and stuffing of ballot boxes. If you like go and steal ballot boxes you will be wasting your time. You cannot change the result again as results are transmitted on the spot at the booths online.

“Note very well that the people’s💪 votes and mandates will NOW count. If you didn’t serve the people well when in public office or you are not popular in your political locality, it is advisable to save your money because TODAY’S voters will collect the money and STILL vote against you.

“Political parties logos MAY not count in 2023 election but candidate’s trust and acceptance MAY prevail.”
