Electoral Act: Can INEC wield the big stick on defaulting parties?

Following the outburst of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, penultimate week about political parties’ flouting of the rules of the game, EMEKA NZE examines the problem.
Perhaps, it came as a warning or a reminder of some sort from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) penultimate week when it announced that some political parties were in blatant breach of some of the laws establishing them.
Such laws as having their party secretariats in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, submitting their 2015 election expenses and income to INEC and adherence to the provision of the Electoral Act which stipulates that parties are to begin campaigns 90 days to election and stop same 24 hours to the elections, in particular.
