Electoral offences: Police nab, parade 52 Thugs in Kogi

Atleast, 52 notorious suspected political thugs has been paraded by the Kogi State Police Command  for various electoral violence  in the state.

Parading the suspects before newsmen on Wednesday at the command  headquarters  in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Busari said to ensure a violence free elections and to clamp down on political thugs, the command adopted a comprehensive crime prevention and directed strategies and operational measures to includes the commencement of intensive raids of identifies criminal hideouts, black spots and flash points across the state.

The Commissioner of Police who said that the operatives attached to the Command, working on actionable intelligence and in compliance with Inspector General of Police’s directives to clamp down on political thugs, noted that thugs who are determined to disrupt the  general elections in Kogi State were  arrested, stressing that  the gang were  responsible for various electoral violence as well as kidnapping of some innocent citizens across the state.

He stated further that the suspects were apprehended in their various hideouts and locations across the state and confessed to their various criminal roles in the commission of the crimes.

According to him “They admitted to have participated in political thuggery in the just concluded 2019 general elections and several kidnapping, armed robberies and attack on innocent travellers on the major highways across the state.

“These achievements were due to the proactive strategies rooted in intelligence led policing, and robust interaction with the various strata of our communities, particularly in the area of information gathering, since it has become obvious that security is an all stakeholders’ affairs,” he said.

The command also recovers 22 different types of guns ragging from AK 47, Locally made pistol, Single Barrel gun, Locally made double barrel gun, Dane gun, Pump Action gun, Locally made Revolver, cut to size Double barrel pistol and number of AK 47 Live Ammunition.

Also recovered include cutlas, expanded cartridge, One green vento salon car and cell phones.

A’Ibom: Bassey, Aduda petition Senate over alleged Police, Army involvement

Senator Bassey Albert  Akpan (PDP Akwa Ibom North East), on Wednesday in the Senate , submitted a petition against some police officers who allegedly  aided political thugs arrested during the just concluded elections in Akwa Ibom state.

Albert who won his re-election bid while submitting the petition asked the Senate to intervene and release over 200 innocent Akwa ibomites allegedly  under detention in the state.

He said over 100 thugs who came from Edo State were intercepted and handed over to the police but were later released by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Musa  Kibo and three other senior police officers.

The senator before laying the petition for deliberation asked the senate to intervene in what happened in the state as many lives were lost through bullets fired at them by  trigger happy policemen.

The senate accepted the petition and sent it to the ethics committee for investigation and onward presentation to the senate in two weeks time .

Also, Senator Philip Aduda (PDP FCT), submitted a petition to the senate from his constituent  in Gwagwalada Area council against the Nigerian Army 

He said his people are petitioning against the seizure of thier land by the army stretching from Giri to the Airport junction,

Aduda said his people want the senate to also intervene and bring peace to the area as they are already blocking roads to vent their anger.

His petition was also referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics , Privileges and Public Petitions for required investigations within the next two weeks.
