Electoral violence: Attah Igala heaps curses on perpetrators, sponsors

Following the violence and killings in the last Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections in Kogi East Senatorial District, the Attah Igala , Dr Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni II has placed ancestral curses on perpetrators and  sponsors of political violence in Kogi state.

The Attah Igala, who is also the chairman of Kogi state traditional council stated this while addressing Journalists on Saturday in his palace in Idah, the ancestral home of Igala Kingdom.

Speaking against the backdrop of the violence that marred the presidential and National Assembly elections which led to the cancellation of the National Assembly elections in 129 polling units, leading to the declaration of the elections inconclusive, the monarch said that the violence also claimed the life of a three hundred level student of the Kogi state University, Anyigba as many property worth several millions were destroyed.

He decreed that anyone that engaged in assassination and their sponsors will be punished by Igala ancestral spirits.

The royal father therefore called on parents to call their children and wards to order to avoid incurring the wrath of the Igala ancestral spirit that would be invoked to deal with any one perpetrating any act of violence in any part of the state and particularly Kogi East.

He lamented the spate of violence, describing it as unacceptable and unimaginable in a contest that was supposed to be for brothers, warning that any one behind the violence would also die by violence.

Flanked by over 30 traditional rulers, the Attah described politics as game of numbers where only one person with highest number of votes emerges winner, maintaining that democracy is not about killing.
