Electricity tariff hike: CATEIN wants FG to revoke license of inefficient operators

Citizens Access to Electricity Initiatives (CATEIN) has called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency revoke the license of inefficient operators in the power sector without further delay.

While rejecting the hike in electricity tariff, the group in a statement jointly signed by the president and general secretary, Abdulsalam  F. Aliyu and Emmanuel Joseph, said “it’s unthinkable and worrisome that, while other countries are giving tariff holidays to its citizens, Nigeria Government and its agencies are making life unbearable for her citizens.”

The statement further said  Nigerians would be mobilised to resist this ‘wickedness’ if  the federal government failed to reverse the hike  and do the needful.

“We advise that looking at all parameters mentioned above, this increase is ill timed, insensitive to the plight of the Nigerians, revoking the licenses of these inefficient operators and not putting more funds in their hand to steal, Nigerians are tired of trial by error in these critical areas that affect their lives.

“We hereby urge the federal government to remain true to its constitutional role of protecting the lives of its citizens and eschew a plan to further make Nigerian poorer than they are already.

God bless Nigeria. Increasing tariff without taking care of the basics like constant electricity availability, ensuring that estimated billing is extinct by providing meters to all  customers, revamping of obsolete equipment and material within the networks from generation through transmission to distribution companies to allow evacuation of electricity so generated, to be transmitted to distribution companies for the end user.

“Tariff hike before these aforementioned, is putting the cart before the horse, Nigerians will be mobilized to resist this fraud and inhuman treatment by the government of the few.”
