Emefiele bags financial policy strategist award

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, has bagged the financial policy strategist of the year award.
The CBN governor was given the award at the Blueprint impact series and award ceremony held at the Rockview hotel yesterday in Abuja.
Speaking after receiving the awards, an elated Emefiele said the award will spur the bank to more to move the economy to the next level.
“We are happy that you recognize the work that we are doing at the Central Bank of Nigeria.
This award is not for me it is dedicated to the hardworking staff of the Bank.
“Recognizing us only means that a lot of work still needs to be done in our sector and further gives us the impetus to do more.
I can assure you that we will achieve your objective of moving Nigeria forward,” he said.
Before his appointment as the Apex Bank boss, Emefiele spent over 26 years in commercial banking culminating in the tenure as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc, one of Nigeria’s largest bank with over 7,000 staff, about $3.2 billion in shareholders’ funds, and subsidiaries in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, South Africa, China and the United Kingdom And in his tenure as the CBN governor, the Bank has pursued with added vigour intervention schemes such as Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme (ACGS), Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme (CACS), the N220billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Fund (MSMEDF), Small and Medium Enterprises Credit Guarantee Scheme (SMECGS), and the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP) to mention but few.
Also, the Apex Bank was able to exclude importers of 41 goods and services from accessing foreign exchange at the Nigerian foreign exchange markets in order to encourage local production of those items and save the country billions of dollars which would have gone into imports.
At the same time, industries across various fields of production, have recorded profits in their earnings.
