…Emir hails FG on food programme

Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mai Umar Mustapha, has commended the federal government for its Food Intervention Programme amounting to 36,000 metric tonnes, stating that the gesture “is not only timely in alleviating the economic hardship experienced amongst his subjects, particularly victims of insurgents.”

He gave the commendation yesterday the when Deputy Governor of Borno state, Hon. Usman Durkwa, paid him a courtesy call in his palace.

Durkwa had before paying the courtesy call on the Emir, flagged off the distribution of the relief items in Buratai town and other surrounding villages of Kimba, Gur, Miringa and some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

The emir commended President Muhammadu Buhari, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Borno state government, security agencies and other humanitarian partners in managing the plights of victims of the crisis.

He urged all his people to continue pray for quick recovery of President Buhari and the restoration of peace in the country.

Earlier, the deputy governor said the distribution of the relief items would be conducted based on each household, irrespective of political considerations.

He said apart from the distribution of the relief items in Hawul, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar and other council areas, “Biu alone will get 10 trucks in addition to other assorted trucks earlier distributed to host communities and surrounding villages, the state government under the leadership of Governor Kashim Shettima is set to flag off the sales and distribution of fertilisers at subsidised rate in Bayo local government area.”

Items donated to each hundreds of households and IDPs include bags of Rice, Beans, Masavita, Semovita, Macroni, and condiments, among others.
