Emotions as Reps hold valedictory session for Prestige Ossy

It was all emotions in the chamber of the House of Representatives Tuesday while a valedictory session was held in honour of a late member, Hon. Prestige Ossy.

The lawmaker, until his demise in a London hospital Sunday February 7, 2021 represented the Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency of Abia state.

Recalling how he had visited the deceased in the hospital amidst strict restrictions due to COVID-19, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said: “As we grieve, Ossy will want us to be happy. I have memories of the last I saw him in London. We sat together in a very emotional moment. We prayed together and that was the last I saw of him.

“For me, we are here to celebrate an accomplished legislator. It was a great loss to his constituency, a great loss to Nigeria. We had, and we lost somebody, a powerful member of this House. He has left footprints. He was committed, and passionate.  As we grieve, let us continue to laugh and smile, even though there is sorrow in the air.

He is a man of great character and influence. I will miss him, the House will miss him, the people of Abia will miss him.”

Also speaking earlier, Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, said the late lawmaker was so eager to live, “because of his wife and children”, recalling how he told him on his visit that “I don’t want to leave them”, noting that “He worked hard for the good of his people.”
