Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT chapter, has been tasked on emphasising issues affecting Nigerian, with particular emphasis on the need for active participation in politics.
Head of Mission, Anambra Liaison Office, Mrs. Edith Mike- Ejezie, gave the charge when NAWOJ FCT executive paid her an advocacy visit.
Mrs. Mike-Ejezie, who said NAWOJ “is a veritable platform for the advancement of various issues relating to the women and children,” noted that it was high time women were more visible in the political space rather than being at the background.
She urged women to take advantage of their numerical strength, and charged the association to continue to ensure women politicians utilise the nation’s resources for the good of the people.
“Women are not visible in politics in Nigeria because of lack of adequate information and ignorance hence women journalists should further look out for more women with credibility and support them in projecting their image to greater publicity,” she said.
Earlier, NAWOJ FCT Chairperson, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene, congratulated the state on re-election of Governor Willie Obiano for a second term in office.
She also commiserated with the state on the passage of former vice-president, Chief Alex Ekwueme, and prayed God to grant the state and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Comrade Okoh-Esene explained that NAWOJ had been in the forefront of encouraging women to distinguish themselves in any position “they find themselves as well as empowering others to advance their socio-economic interest.”
