Emulate APC if defeated in Ondo – Lawan tells PDP

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has admonished officers and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept defeat if the party loses at the Ondo state gubernatorial election to be held on the 10th of October.

Lawan, who stated this at the Wednesday plenary while commenting on a point of order raised by Senator Mathew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo South) on the recently conducted gubernatorial election in Edo state, said the PDP should emulate the APC if it loses the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial election.

Urhoghide had in his motion said the people of Edo state, including the governor and other stakeholders, are appreciative of the way and manner the election was conducted.

“What Mr President did in ensuring free and fair elections on the 19th of September in Edo state gives hope to this country”, he said.

Responding, Lawan said: “Even though some of our colleagues are in the opposition, the two senators who spoke—Mathew Urhoghide and the Deputy Minority Leader, who enjoyed the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, have solid grounds for doing so.

“It is how it should be. We are looking forward to October when the APC will do the same here and congratulate the President, Inspector General of Police for fair and free elections.

“I hope that the opposition will not see that election as compromised but well-done for that very frank and patriotic submission.”
