#EndSARS: NESG postpones economic summit

Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning (FMFBNP), and Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) co-hosts of the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit, have postponed the annual conference till further notice.

The 26th Nigerian Economic Summit is a big conversation for action with the theme “Building Partnerships for Resilience” which focuses on key national issues, especially as Nigeria continues to manage the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic on its economy.

In a release signed by co-chairmen of the public-private summit, Mr. Nnnana Ude and Mr. D.T Adeosun, stated that “in the past years, deliberations and outcomes of the summit drove a national discourse but it is clear that holding this year’s summit

from October 26 – 27, 2020 will be insensitive, if adequate cognisance and due consideration of recent developments across the country is not done.”

“It is against this background that, after due consultation among the key stakeholders, the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit is postponed.

“However, a new date would be announced in due course. We regret the inconveniences to resource persons, participants, sponsors, the media, vendors, and the public.

“We believe that this is the right thing to do at this time,” Adeosun said.

The two-day summit was due to begin next Monday, bringing together 10,000 delegates from around the world to attended 27 impactful sessions, discussing

critical sectors and issues about the Nigerian economy.

Renowned personalities including Governor Kayode Fayemi, Prof. Justin Yifu Lin, Mrs. Bola Adesola, Mrs. Funke Opeke and 130 others were scheduled to attend the summit, the statement added.
