#EndSARS: Ogun panel begins sitting, receives 40 petitions

The Ogun state panel of Investigation on police brutality, human right abuses and extra judicial killings Thursday commenced sitting at the Magistrate Court one, Isabo, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the inaugural sitting, the chairman of the panel Justice Solomon Olugbemi (rtd) said the panel has so far received about 40 petitions, adding that the door is still open to members of the public to send in their petition using the dedicated portal.

Justice Olugbemi further reiterated that the panel is not out to witch-hunt any police officer, petitioners or members of the public who volunteer to assist the panel in discharging its duties.

He also called for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders, warning counsels against unnecessary delay just as he assured that justice shall be served to all concerned as required.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner of  Justice, Akingbolahan Adeniran while addressing the panel on behalf of the state government appealed for adequate information from the general public, adding a human rights complaints portal would soon be introduced in the state

“The panel of investigation has six months to complete its assignment, it only good that members of the general public and especially those whose rights have been abused should approach the panel for redress” he added.

Recall that aftermath of the endSARS protest in the state, the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun had set up the panel to look into cases of police brutality, while giving assurance that justice for victims will be served.
