#EndSars protest: NGO decries violent dimension

A group under the auspices of Patriots for Growth and Development Initiative (PGDI) has decried the violent and dangerous dimension the #Endsars protest is taking across the country.

Consequently, the group called on the federal government to act fast to stop the impending state of anarchy.

PGDI is a local non‐governmental organisation with a mission
to improve the quality of lives and livelihoods of people and promote sustainable development.

At a press conference held in Lokoja over the current spate of #Endsars protest Monday, the Executive Director of the organisation, Isaac Salami, said the current trend of the protest if not urgently checked and arrested, may throw the nation into a state of anarchy.

He lamented that the continuous escalating acts of disruptions, attacks and killings in recent days, in some  parts of the country is a carefully planned effort and handiwork of fifth-columnists and enemies of Nigeria to subvert the relative peace and unity in the country.

He noted that the protesters have deviated from the original intentions of the protest to end  SARS  and agitate for Police reform, saying  the violent dimension that the supposed peaceful protest has taken in the past few days has shown that some enemies of the state are marauding as protesters to unleash mayhem and confusion on the peace and unity of Nigeria.

He said those behind the violent protest intended  to cause security crisis of national magnitude that will lead to destruction of means of livelihoods of Nigerians.

He noted that already, President Muhammadu Buhari in his national broadcast has stated categorically  that the process of police reform may take time, adding  that  the disbandment of SARS was only the first step in government’s commitment to police reform.

He wondered why after the President’s has commenced the implementation of all the five-point demands of the protesters, they still continue to be on the streets, thereby creating opportunities for negative characters to perpetrate anarchy  leading to threat of lives and livelihoods of Nigerians.

While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for listening to, and accepting to implement all the demand of the protesters, the executive director charged states and federal government to use every legal and constitutional means to protect lives and livelihoods of all.
