Engage on issue-based campaign, Ortom’s aide tells APC

The Chief Press Secretary to Benue state Governor, Mr. Terver Akase has asked aspirants of the All Progressive Congress to engage on issue-based campaign and refrain from insulting the governor.
Akase, who spoke yesterday with newsmen in his office, noted that instead of telling the people what they will do to develop Benue when elected, the APC aspirants have resorted to attacking personalities.
He particularly described as ‘frivolous’ comments credited to the senator representing Benue North West, George Akume that governor Ortom was parading what he called a ‘fake’ degree certificate from a nonexisting university.
He challenged the senator to campaign on issues that would save his party, the All Progressives Congress, during next year’s general elections and leave the governor alone.
“The issue of certificate is frivolous; as far as we are concerned, the laws of Nigeria have spelt out in clear terms about the qualification a person must have before he or she is elected as governor.
“It says, once you have a school certificate you are qualified to be governor and the governor has a school certificate, a Diploma, an Advanced Diploma, a Masters Degree and a PhD.
So what is it about certificate, do certificates perform in office? “Remember that he too had a case of certificate.
One Mr.
Dan Agbese took him to court over issues bothering on his certificates, and I think that shouldn’t be the issue now as we move into 2019 elections,” he added.
Governor Ortom challenged Akume and other aspirants under APC to cogently embark on issuebased campaign to convince people of the state to vote for the party on which platform he was also seeking to return to the Senate for the fourth time.
He said his principal, governor Ortom had to leave APC because it was the clog in the wheels of the state, noting that the party had selfish leaders who are only concerned with personal aggrandizement.
“In the past three years, 43 communities have been linked to urban centres, he has completed projects in more than 400 schools across the state, the governor has also built 44 primary health care centres across the three senatorial districts, and completed road projects abandoned by the past administration among many other achievements,’ he said.
