Enhance financial accountability, Bozimo tasks judiciary financial officers

The Administrator, National Judicial Institute (NJI), Hon. Justice Rosaline Patricia Bozimo, on Monday tasked judiciary financial officers on the need to enhance financial accountability in the line of duty.

Bozimo made this call in Abuja while delivering her welcome address at the opening ceremony of the national workshop for directors of finance, internal auditors and other financial officers of the judiciary.

The theme of the workshop held at the Andrew Obaseki auditorium, NJI is: “Promoting financial integrity in the judiciary is vital”.

The purpose of the workshop according to her is to initiate broad discussions and develop a better understanding of modern financial developments and national regulations.

She said, “This workshop is also organised to promote integrity and professionalism in relation to the management of our finances.

“It will avail you the opportunity to proffer solutions that will improve financial management while putting forward best practices aimed at curbing financial malpractices in the judiciary in line with the federal government’s policy on the fight against corruption in all sectors.

“Financial integrity is essential and as such, financial systems must be transparent to promote good governance,”

While appreciating roles being played by the judiciary financial officers, the NJI administrator insisted that financial officers of the arm of government plays a crucial role in ensuring accountability and probity in the process of adjudication of justice.

“Adherence to financial regulations, prevention and detection of fraud and error, accuracy and completeness of accounting records, timely preparation of information and inadequate qualified manpower are some of the demands that you are faced with, she observed.

She thereafter enjoined the participants to use the opportunity availed them through the workshop to raise level of public confidence.

One of the participants, Yinka Balogun told Blueprint that the workshop would afford him the opportunity of raising the tempo of his job productivity and efficiency.

He said, “Definitely, I would have to put into practice all the lessons learnt at this workshop,”
