Minister of Environment, Mohammed H. Abdullahi, has has charged the relevant authorities to ensure adequate quality sanitation delivery services in the country, and to attend the SDG goals regarding sanitation.
Abdullahi who was represented by the Director, Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Mr Charles Ikeah, made this known during the Commemoration of 2022 National Environmental Sanitation Day in Abuja.
He stressed that the major objective of the National Environmental sanitation is to arouse citizens consciousness on the issues surrounding sanitation, and of course, on the needs for everybody to keep his or her surroundings very clean.
“A significant percentage of preventable communicable diseases are traced to poor sanitation. So if we are able to improve the sanitation delivery system in the country, of course, we are on the road to cutting down on our disease and borders,” he added.
In his remark, District Head Karamajigi, Alhaji Yunusa Bako Abdullahi, promised that the people in the community will keep the environment clean.
He noted that environmental sanitation is needed and important to health in different ways, saying, “Without keeping our environment clean, it can make us to be unhealthy and lead to contamination and disease.”
Alh. Abdullahi said, “We have challenges in this community in the aspect of cleanliness and you are here to sensitize us and we will as well inform our people to always embark on sanitation and maintain the routine at the end of the month. We will always use rule and regulation to enforce it.”
He appealed to the Environmental Management Agency to always come around to park the waste from designated area to avoid indiscrimate dumping of refuse and at the end of the month to see how we can be able to tackled this as a people. This way we will keep our environment and well being safe without contaminated diseases.
