Ensure take-off of police training institute, Gombe gov tasks own NASS members

The Gombe state governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has charged the state’s representatives in the National Assembly to push for the take-off of the newly established police training institute in the state.

According to him, the security situation in the state has become very tasking and overwhelming due to the state of the affairs in the North-east.

The governor said the state had been turned to like a sanctuary for people displaced by the activities of insurgents in the region and, therefore, called on members representing the state at the national assembly to push and press for the speedy take-off of the newly established police training institute in the state.

The government had donated and handed over an abandoned school which built by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Dukku local government area of the state, but was never put to use to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for the establishment of an institute which is expected to train officers of Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) and Border Patrol Units of the Force.

The governor, who made the call while addressing a delegation from the Force Headquarters who were in the state inspecting the facility, said “insecurity remains the biggest challenge not just in the North-east sub-region, but the country as a whole.”

“It is as a result of this that we approached the NPF to start utilising the school structure that has been lying waste for long. This is done in order to enhance the operations of the force and provide security for the citizens,” he said.
