The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun state, yesterday, asked the state special marshals to be proactive on the roads and ensure zero death during the yuletide period.
Sector Commander of FRSC, Clement Oladele, stated this during the 2017 special marshal state workshop with the theme: “Road Safety is Not a Privilege But a Right”, held at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital hall, Aro, Abeokuta.
According to him, “Last year operation zero tolerance held from December 19, 2016 till January 15, 2017. During this special patrol, we recorded 27 crashes which killed 21 people and left 71 others injured.
“This was an increase from the 21 crashes and 15 deaths recorded during the end of the year special patrol of year 2015.
“We must double our efforts to stem the upward trend. I expect a massive turn out of special marshals for public enlightenment and traffic control during the coming end of the year.
“The FRSC special marshals will focus on the crash prone areas andgridlock points like Lagos /Ibadan, Lagos /Abeokuta, Sagamu /Ijebu Ode/Ore and Sagamu /Abeokuta,” Oladele said.
