Enugu 2023: Nweke Jr. unveils Ugwuanyi as running mate

The race to occupy the Enugu State Government House, the Lion Building, 2023 has gathered more momentum as the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr, Tuesday unveiled his running mate Dr, Mrs Edith Ugwuanyi.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Dr. Peter Mbah, had already unveiled his running mate, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai.

Addressing a mammoth crowd that attended the ceremony at the Bridge Waters Hotel, Enugu on Tuesday, Nweke said that he had been in government and is prepared to change the face of Enugu.

He promised to make Enugu an investment haven where investors would be happy to invest thereby creating opportunity for jobs for the teeming youths, adding that he would make Enugu not to rely on federal allocation alone but to look inward to generate more revenue.

He said that it was in his day as the Chief of Staff to the former governor Chimaroke Nnamani, that the Ama Brewery was built by the Nigerian Bottling Company, NBC which today has contributed to the growth of the economy of the state.

Nweke also promised to make Nollywood buoyant again after suffering a lull whereas it was in Enugu that the Nollywood kicked off.

He wondered that other cities like Asaba and Owerri seem to be taking over from Enugu, the cradle of Nollywood and said that he would bring back the lost glory.

He said that they would do everything possible to wrench power from the domineering stranglehold of PDP since 1999, saying that it would no longer be business as usual.

The former minister of Information,you regretted that Enugu has been going down in recent years, pointing out that he would rebuild Enugu and make it enviable and attractive in terms of economy and infrastructure.

“Under me, Enugu will not remain the same. I walk my talk. As a governor, when I say that this thing will be and where it is going to be, so it will be,” he said.

Nweke’s running mate, Dr. Ugwuanyi, is from Igbo-Eze South local government area, Enugu North senatorial zone.
