Enugu council polls: NANS commends Ugwuanyi for recognising youths

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has applauded Governor  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state for recognising the youths by allocating 50 per cent chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions in People Democratic Party (PDP), to the youths in the forthcoming local government election scheduled to hold  February 29, 2020.

The NANS vice-president (National Affairs), Mr Chidi Ilogebe, made the commendation in a statement made available to  newsmen in Enugu, Thursday.

Ilogebe said the attention of NANS had been drawn “to a second to none and positive decision of Governor Ugwuanyi to groom, encourage and support youths in governance.

“Information at our disposal reveals that the governor  in his magnanimity was able to persuade, convince, and follow up to the latter on the need for party stakeholders and delegates to support and allocate positions to the youths.

“Over 50 per cent of the local government chairmanship and vice-chairmanship slots within his political party had been allocated to youths in the forthcoming local government elections.

“This is aside other political appointments given to youths in his cabinet, a feat we consider second to none and first of its kind in Nigeria,’’ he said.

He stated further that, “Nigerian students sincerely commend the governor  for his unflinching love, passion, and affection towards the growth and development of Nigerian students and youths most especially in Enugu state.

“And in lieu of this, we are saying thank you, for always displaying an unwavering love for the Nigerian students and youths,’’ he added.

The NANS vice-president called on other democratically progressive minded governors to emulate Ugwuanyi in his quest to ensure active youth participation in governance basically aimed at discovering hidden leadership potentials of youth and in line with Not-Too-Young-To-Run Act advocacy.

“NANS is finally calling on all Nigerian students  to remain peaceful, law abiding and great ambassadors of our dear country Nigeria, and shun acts that are capable of causing pandemonium anywhere in the country,’’ he added.
