Enugu enjoyed autonomy before NFIU –Council boss

The Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Hon. Chukwudi Fred Ezinwa, has lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for upholding the autonomy of the local councils.

Ezinwa stated that before the federal government came up with the Nigeria Financial Intelligent Unit, NFIU, the local government chairmen had been enjoying financial autonomy.

He said because of the non-interference of the governor in the finances, no council chairman had any cause not to perform.

The council boss made this known when a tripartite team of the good governance tour of the local governments made up of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), organised labour and civil society groups visited the council area on Friday.

Ezinwa took the team round some of the projects his administration executed since he assumed office two years ago.

He reeled out some of his achievements to include a 50,000 litre Solar powered borehole that would give water to the council headquarters and the environs.

Other projects include the grading of virtually all the community roads, renovation of ENSIEC office, payroll office, WAEC office, a pavilion among others as well as the procurement of 20 motorcycles to be distributed to the 20 wards in the local government for the security patrol of the areas.
