Enugu Police arrest ‘robbery kingpin’, one other

 

Police in Enugu state have arrested a suspected armed robbery kingpin, Mathew Ugwu aka Fire at Amalla in Udenu Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Ebere Amarizu, in a statement in Enugu said the suspect was nabbed by the security operatives following a tip-off.
Amarizu stated, “He was nabbed by the operatives through intelligence information from members of the public on 8/3/18 in the afternoon at Amalla in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
“The suspect is alleged to be behind some several violent crimes and that of snatching peoples motorcycles as well as robbing them of their handsets and other valuables within Udenu and its environs in the recent past.”
He said some of the items recovered from the suspect include one Gulf 3 car and one locally made double barrel pistol with one live cartridge.
The spokesperson said Ugwu was helping Police operatives in their investigations.
According to him, operatives of the command also arrested a suspected member of an armed robbery gang that specialises in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting road users.
“In a similar development, the operatives of the Udenu Division of the Nigeria Police Force Enugu state Command acting on intelligence information have nabbed one Odo Chibuike of Iheakpu Obollo Afor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu state on March 6, 18, with a locally made pistol with one live cartridge.
“Intelligence information gathered revealed that suspect is a member of Armed Robbery gang that specializes in motorcycle snatching/stealing within Udenu and its environs,” the spokesperson stated.
He said the suspect was helping the police operatives in their investigations, adding that the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigations.
