Enyimba chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu has described as “tricky” his team’s CAF Confederation Cup final playoff s pairing with Bidvest Wits of South Africa.
In the draw conducted in Cairo on Wednesday, the two-time African champions were drawn against the Clever Boys, who last season were crowned PSL champions for the first time in their history.
That league triumph earned the modest Johannesburg side a place in the CAF Champions League this term.
They were, however, eliminated in the final Playoff round by Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto, and so entered the Confederation Cup at the 2nd 1/16th Round.
Wits play under the tutelage of experienced 53-year-old, Gavin Hunt.
The hugely successful manager won three league titles with Supersport United, and pulled off a miracle last season in beating away the challenge of much The South Africans will host the first leg between April 6-8 while the return leg is scheduled to hold between 17-18 April at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
“It’s a very tricky fixture because our opponents have the experience of playing on the continent,” Anyansi said “No team should be underrated and I have started playing the match in my mind since the draw was made.
“We played against another South African club Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League two years ago.
We beat them by a lone goal in Nigeria and we were beaten 2-1 in South Africa.
“It will not be a stroll in the park against Wits, we have to work very hard to get to the group stage of the Confederation Cup at their expense.
” Enyimba have won the CAF Champions League twice, in 2003 and 2004,but no Nigerian club have stood on the podium in the Confederation Cup.
Anyansi also promised fans that very soon Enyimba will return to play their international and local matches at the Aba Stadium as renovation is almost completed.
