Equity market closes higher, gains N110bn

Equity market yesterday closed higher on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange following gains recorded by some capitalised stocks, gaining N110 billion gain.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by  0.87 per cent to N12.692 trillion from N12.582 trillion reported the previous day.

The NSE All Share Index also gained  210.88 basis points or 0.87 per cent to 24354.25 points from 24143.37 traded on Wednesday.

Investors traded 431.582 million shares worth N5.260 billion in 5860 deals against 426.641 million shares valued at N4.102 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 7384 deals.

The NSE trading activities during the day showed that Nestle Nigeria Plc led gainers table during the day, gaining N25.00 to close at N1000.00, Dangote Cement followed with a gain of N6.20 kobo to close at N150.00, Nigeria Breweries Nigeria PLC gained N1.90 kobo to close at N34.90 kobo, Conoil Plc added N1.70 kobo to close at N19.10 kobo while Ardova Plc added N1.35 kobo to close at N15.30 kobo.

Guinness Nigeria Plc on the contrary, recorded the highest loss, declining by N0.65 kobo to close at N18.30 kobo, Zenith Bank Plc trailed with a loss of N0.60 kobo to close at N15.20 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank trailed with a loss of N0.45 kobo to close at N22.50 kobo,  Lafarge Wapco fell by N0.25 kobo to close at N10.90 kobo, FBNHoldings down by N0.20 kobo to close at N4.70 kobo.

The report further showed that FBNHoldings  was the most active stock for the day, exchanging 115.567 million Shares valued at N543.063 million, Zenith Bank followed with 75.900 million shares worth N1.139 billion, Guaranty Trust Bank traded 54.875 million shares cost N1.221 billion, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated Plc traded 39.608 million shares worth N197.333 million while Mutual Benefits sold a total of 30.964 million shares cost N6.343 million
