Equity market closes higher, gains N59bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Thursday took positive trend, despite the 24 hours curfew in Lagos State over the EndSARS protest, gaining N59 billion.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.40 per cent to N14.929 trillion from N14.870 trillion reported on Wednesday.

The NSE All Share Index appreciated by 114.38 basis points to 28563.87 points from 28449.49 points recorded the previous day.

Investors exchanged 311.333 million shares valued at N4.691 billion in 3375 deals against 326.577 million shares worth N4.224 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 4367 deals.

A review of transactions for the day showed that MTN Nigeria Communications Plc led gainers table, gaining N2.00 to close at N140.00, Stanbic IBTC followed with a gain of N1.00 to close at N4.40 kobo, UAC of Nigeria added N0.55 kobo to close at N7.15 kobo, Wapco Insurance gained N0.35 kobo  to close at N17.65 kobo, Dangote Sugar appreciated by N0.50 kobo to close at N13.80 kobo.

On the contrary, Gloxasmith topped losers chart, dropping by N0.20 kobo to close at N18.50 kobo, International Breweries fell by N0.19 kobo to close at N6.25 kobo, Zenith Bank Plc dipped by N0.15 kobo to close at N20.65 kobo, Guinness Nigeria Plc declined by N0.05 kobo to close N15.95 kobo.

Guaranty Trust Bank was the most active stock during the day, trading 77.841 million shares valued at N2.336 billion, Access Bank Plc followed with account of 57.658 million shares worth N442.772 million, Zenith Bank traded 39.584 million shares worth N813.766 million, FBNHoldings exchanged 21.744 million shares cost N131.577 million while United Bank for Africa sold a total of 18.160 million shares cost N122.810 million.
