Equity market gains N16bn in first of trading

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange Monday opened in positive trend, gaining N16 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities increased by N16 billion or 0.08 per cent to N20.994 trillion from N20.978 trillion reported on Friday.

The NSE All Share Index also appreciated by 30.56 basis points to 40150.78 points from 40120.22 points traded  at close of transaction last week.

Investors traded 335.699 million shares valued at N2.489 billion in 5338 deals against 333.311 million shares cost N3.648 billion in 5142 deals.

A review of the transactions for the day showed that Ardova Plc led gainers table during the day, appreciating by N1.60 kobo to close at N17.95 kobo, Presco Plc followed with a gain of N1.00 to close at N72.00, Flour Mills Nigeria Plc added N0.75 kobo to close at N27.45 kobo, Berger Paint added N0.70 kobo to close at N8.05 kobo, Okomu Oil added N0.50 kobo to close at N93.00.

On the contrary, BOC Gas topped losers chart during the day, shedding N1.26 kobo to close at N11.39 kobo, Cutix trailed with a loss of N0.24 kobo to close at N2.16 kobo, United Capital fell by N0.17 kobo to close at N4.83 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank dipped by N0.15 kobo to close at N32.85 kobo, Caverton fell by N0.14 kobo to close at N1.84 kobo

The result further showed that Mutual Benefits Insurance was the most active stock during the day, trading 104.162 million shares valued at N31.036 milliin, Mansard followed with a account of 26.342 million shares cost N30.435 million, Lafarge Wapco traded 14.383 million shares cost N320.536 million, Fidelity Bank sold a total of 13.381 million shares valued at N36.056 million while Zenith Bank exchanged 13.360 million shares cost N344.698 million.
