Equity market gains N412bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday sustained growth profile, following gained recorded by capitalised stocks, increasing by  N412 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities appreciated by 3.09 per cent to N13.717 trillion from N13.305 trillion reported on Tuesday.

The NSE All Share Index also improved by 927.01 basis points to 31145.15 points from 30,218.14 points traded the previous day. 

Investors traded a turnover of 294.572 million shares valued at N17.468 billion in 4835 deals against 335.599 million shares worth N17.185 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 4453 deals.

A breakdown of the transactions showed that Dangote Cement Industry led gainers table during the day gaining N18.00 to close at N203.00, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc followed with a gain of N13.50 kobo to close at N144.85 kobo, Gkaxosmith Kline gained N0.45 kobo to close at N8.95 kobo, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc added N0.38 kobo to close at N4.25 kobo while Cadbury Nigeria Plc increased by N0.15 kobo to close at N10.50 kobo.

On the contrary, Nestle Nigeria Plc recorded the highest during the day dropping N110.00 to N1320.00, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated trailed with a loss of N0.85 kobo to close at N9.15 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank down by N0.80 kobo to close at N30.50 kobo, Zenith Bank Plc fell by N0.50 kobo to close at N19.00 while Nigerian Breweries declined by N0.45 kobo to close at N61.70 kobo.

The market further showed that MTN Nigeria was the most active stock for the day, trading 93.722 million shares worth N13.575 billion, Zenith Bank Plc followed with account of 29.465 million shares worth N566.547 million, United Bank for Africa sold a total of 22.367 million shares cost N129.556 milliin, Access Bank traded 21.403 million shares cost N127.873 million while Guaranty Trust Bank traded 16.552 million shares valued at N516.619 million
