Equity market gains N53bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Tuesday sustained growth profile, appreciating by N53 billion as market activities were boosted by sell-off in shares of Geregu , Transcorps FBNHoldings, among others.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.20 per cent to N26.344 trillion from N26.291 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX’s All Share Index also appreciated by 96.46 basis points to 48366.69 points from 48270.23 points in the previous day.

Investors traded 184.656 million shares valued at N3.571 billion in 3189 deals against 645.025 million shares worth N4.190 billion in 3486 deals.

An analysis of the Investment showed that Honey Well Flour led gainers table during the day, gaining 8.06 per cent to N2.28, Champion Breweries followed with a gain of 7.14 per cent to N3.75, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated added 4.98 per cent to N10.55, Lasaco Insurance down by 4.71 per cent to N0.89, RTBriscoe up by 4.00 per cent to N0.26.

On the contrary, UPDC topped losers chart during the day, dropping by 7.07 per cent to N0.92,Wema Bank Bank trailed with a loss of 6.12 per cent to N3.22, FTNCocoa down by 3.33 per cent to N0.29, Wapic Insurance fell by 2.63 per cent to N0.37, Oando Plc dipped by 2.50 per cent to N3.90.

The result further showed that FBNHoldings was the toast of investors during the day, exchanging 66.107 million shares valued at N727.028 million, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria followed with account of 36.614 million shares cost N43.449 million, Geregu sold 17.473 million shares cost N1.754 billion, AccessCorp traded 7.351 million shares valued at N62.926 million, RTBriscoe exchanged 5.631 million shares cost N1.513 million.
