Equity market loses N171bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday continued with volatility, as value of equities dipped by N171 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 1.54 per cent to N10.953 trillion from N11.124 trillion reported on Friday.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 454.14 basis points to 29162.24 points from 29616.38 points traded previously.

Investors during the day traded a turnover of 455.875 million shares worth N5.257 billion in 3993 deals against 401.185 million shares valued at N3.491 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3575 deals.

A review of the investment for the day showed that Mobil Plc led gainers table during the day, increasing by N1.00 to close at N171.00, Eterna Plc followed with a gain of N0.25 kobo to close at N4.25 kobo Learn Africa appreciated by N0.11 kobo to close at N1.34 kobo, Caverton gained N0.08 kobo to close at N2.60 kobo, Neimeth Pharmaceuticals Plc added N0.05 kobo to close at N0.56 kobo.

On the contrary, Dangote Cement Industry recorded the highest loss during the day, dropping by N3.50 kobo to close at N185.50 kobo, Stanbic IBTC trailed with a loss of N3.05 kobo to close at N43.20 kobo, Guinness Nigeria Plc down by N2.45 kobo to close at N60.00, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc fell by N1.00 to close at N34.00 while Union Bank of Nigeria Plc sheds N0.50 kobo to close at N8.50 kobo.
