Equity market loses N457bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange NSE) Thursday continued in downward trend, following loses recorded by some capitalised stocks, forcing the market to decline by N457 billion.

Specifically, Market Capitalisation of listed equities dipped by 3.72 per cent to N11.827 trillion from N12.284 trillion reported on Wednesday.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated further by 876.87 basis points to 22695.88 points from 23572.75 points traded the previous day.

Investors traded 1.058 billion shares worth N9.806 billion in 5501 deals against 1.391 billion share valued at N17.647 billion exchanged hands in 7150 deals.

A review of the investment during the day showed that Stanbic IBTC led gainers table during the day, gaining N0.95 kobo to close at N29.30 kobo, Skyways Aviation Handling Company followed with a gain of N0.23 kobo to close at N2.57 kobo, Caverton gained N0.21 kobo to close at N2.31 kobo, Mobil PLC and Omatek remained stable at N146.50 kobo and N0.37 kobo respectively.

On the contrary, MTN Nigeria Plc recorded the highest loss during the day, declining by N10.30 kobo to close at N93.20 kobo, Okomu Oil trailed with a loss of N6.10 kobo to close at N55.30 kobo, Presco Plc down by N4.45 kobo to close at N40.45 kobo, Nigerian Breweries Plc fell by N3.30 kobo to close at N29.70 kobo while Flour Mill Nigeria Plc sheds N2.20 kobo to close at N19.80 kobo.
