Era of inter-agency rivalry over – Buratai

As the country continues to face several internal security threats, the military and other agencies must work in harmony to achieve the common goal of eradicating these threats for peace and development of the country, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said.

Buratai said this yesterday while addressing troops at the Headquarters of 73 Battalion, Janguza Barracks, Kano.

He said Nigerian Army would continue to work together with other sister services and security agencies in order to secure the country.

“You must continue to be loyal and committed to our country. Election is around the corner and you must be apolitical. We must continue with inter-services and interagency cooperation to protect Nigerians.

“The Era of interagency rivalry is over. We must work together to secure our country”, he said.

The army chief charged the troops to deal decisively with criminals, but protect civilians during operations.

“You deployment in Operation MESA is not just a deterrence, you must take action when criminals try to take laws into their hands, attack your colleagues or civilians.
“You must not remain indifferent when criminals continue to commit arson. You must act according to the rules of engagement.

“Security situation in Kano state is stable, but we still have cases of kidnapping and armed robbery. So you must work together with other security agencies to stop these threats”, he added.

Buratai also inspected accommodations in the barracks and directed immediate renovation of dilapidated structures.

The army chief is touring army formations to appraise the combat capacity and readiness of units, troop’s welfare and logistics and to re-strategise in order to ensure success in various ongoing security operations and exercises.
