Eschew violence at LG congress, Gov Bello charges members

Kogi state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to eschew violence and embrace peace during the local government congress of the party.

Bello gave the charge yesterday in Lokoja during the party’s stakeholders meeting ahead of the local government congress slated for today.

According to him, government is operating under the rule of law, saying his administration would not tolerate any act of violence or brigandage that could thwart the peaceful conduct of the local government congress in the state.

The governor, who pointed out that no member of the party was being denied the right of APC, urged some members outside the party to come closer in order to move the party and the state forward.

“The last Saturday wards congress was free and fair and it is imperative to all the members of the party to repeat the feat. We promised earlier to redefine politics in Kogi state and we are doing it for other states in the country to emulate.

“I am reiterating and cautioning members of the party against violence during the congress because who ever cause trouble will be consumed by the trouble”

In his remark, Chairman, Local Government Congress Committee, Mr. Bestman Nze-Jumbie, commended the party members for the successful conduct of wards congress and urged them to repeat same for the local government congress.

He, however, cautioned members against plans to destroy the party and run to other parties to have a rethink and join hand to build the party.

In his speech, the acting state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, appealed to members to behave in a peaceful manner during the congress, saying “the success of the congress lies in the hands of the members”.
