Ethnic crisis brews in Osun over death at mining site

Ethnic crisis is brewing in Ile-Ife, Osun state, as a man whose name is yet to be ascertained, was reportedly killed by some Hausa men at a mining site in Aruwa village in Atakumosa Local Government of the state.

The killing has created tension in Sabo, Ile-Ife, where the Hausas reside, because of fear of reprisal attack.

An eye witness told our correspondent that children were hurriedly released from school due to fear of reoccurrence of the 2017 imbroglio.

According to the eye witness, the Hausas had prepared to defend themselves in case of any attack.

It was gathered that those with weapons immediately kept it because of the police intervention.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Osun Command, SP Folasade Odoro, said: “The Commissioner of Police has deployed men to the area. The situation is under control. There is no panic, please.”
