Etsu Nupe hails NGO over free treatment of 3,000 patients

The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has commended the UK-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Africa Healthcare Development Trust (AHDT), for offering free medical treatment to over 3, 000 patients in his domain.
Etsu Nupe spoke with newsmen in his Wadata palace, Bida, while speaking on the free treatment by the medical professionals of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

The traditional ruler said the gesture had really helped in improving the health of the less privileged, adding that “the team had brought to the people relieve and succour in treating their ailments.”
He explained that the complementary roles of NGOs “cannot be overemphasised, as their idea across the globe was born out of selfless thinkers and concerns of individuals that bothered about the plight of the less privileged.”

He said the emirate would continue to support this kind of opportunity that will be of benefit to mankind, while calling on the Nupe within and in the Diaspora to emulate the medical doctors in contributing their own quota to the development of the Nupe race, the state and indeed Nigeria.
The royal father said the roles of the 12 members of the foreign based medical experts as well as 16 others who were from other teaching hospitals from across the country were commendable.

He said: “I am particularly happy when I receive the reports of those that the team had treated on various disease conditions and as well given surgical operation free of charge.
“This had really assisted so many in finding solutions to their ill health predicament, as many of them who cannot afford medical bills of the ailment were now treated by the medical experts.”
Also speaking, leader of the medical team, Dr Mohammed Aminu-Usman, thanked the Niger state government for funding part of the programme and Bida Emirate for providing an enabling environment for the team to offer their own contributions to the health of the citizens.
