EU-UN empowers 54 girls with life skills

European Union and United Nations (EU-UN) Wednesday empowered 54 girls in the Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state on life skills.

The girls were empowered in a three-day life skills training for adolescent girls to become change agents towards the elimination of violence against women and girls in the area.

The program was organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Ebonyi state with support from the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative.

The UNICEF desk officer with the National Orientation Agency, Uchenna Unah, who represents the international organisation, said the girls were trained on how to refuse the advances of the men folk politely and how to handle some other negative challenges they encounter as adolescents.

He said: “We trained adolescent girls, in and out of school girls on life skills. Life skills are those behaviors they should imbibe to survive in society. We are training them on how to handle challenges, especially the negative challenges in society.

“We train them on speaking skills, refusal skills, acceptance skills, and then generally on how to interact with both their peers and the opposite sex. We are training 54 girls in Ohaozara local government area on life skills training and the training lasted for three days.”
